Imagine a life without fear, worry, or anxiety. Though God wishes such a life for us, freedom from anxiety often seems beyond our grasp. During the next several weeks, we’ll seek to overcome the fears that plague us.​

​What do you fear?” Imagine a life without fear, worry, or anxiety. Though God wishes such a life for us, freedom from anxiety often seems beyond our grasp. During the next several weeks, we’ll seek to overcome the fears that plague us.
​Our fears come in many shapes and sizes. At times, it can be hard even to know exactly what it is that makes us so anxious. Today, we consider the stories of two men who were confronted by a change they could hardly comprehend. One, so I’d like to think, pushed through his fear and embraced the change, albeit reluctantly. The other simply turned away in sadness.

​We like to be in control of our lives and, in some ways, we are. We can be kind to others or we can be indifferent. We can practice happiness or we can allow ourselves to slide into unhappiness. But sometimes, we are reminded that there is much in this life and in this world that we do not control.

​Sometimes we fear that we will fail. Sometimes we fear that we have failed. Today, we will consider Peter, who could not entertain the possibility of failure and was crushed when it came, only to be lifted out of his despair by the risen Christ and the power of God’s Spirit.

​Christ the Lord is risen! The blinding brilliance of Easter banishes our fears, for we are God’s Easter people, filled with a spirit of power and of love.
